| Aluminij, the bearer of the ISO 14001 Certificate as well |
Aluminij d.d. Mostar established an efficient and effective system for managing environment protection (EMS) according to the required international standards ISO 14001. Within that system Aluminij identified all the environmental aspects (more then 200 of them) that are related to Aluminijs activities, defined significance, situated goals and created programs for improving environmental influences.
Aluminijs management obligated itself to continually improve the environment status, harmonize with legislative regulations on environment, and improve awareness of its employees and partners about the importance of a systematical care of the environment.

| New investments in protecting the environment |
Aluminij invested in its environment protection program over 12.000.000 euros, and intends to invest at least the same amount by the end of 2008. The certification institute Bureau Veritas Quality International (BVQI) audited the certification that Aluminij had for the managing environment protection system at the end of September 2003, and on November the 10th the same year Aluminij received the Certificate for the same system according to the standards of ISO 14001.
Thus, Aluminij became the first company in the Hercegovačko-neretvanska district, and one of the first four companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina that owns such a certificate. It is not insignificant to mention that the companies that have a successful implicated managing quality system are rare in the world (according to standards ISO 9001) and a managing environment protection system, as does Aluminij.

| Despite manufacturing complications Aluminij precedes in protecting the environment |

|
The importance of this certificate for Aluminij is all the more greater because we are talking about a successfully implicated managing environment protection system in a so-called dirty industry, manufacturing metal, an industry which is a procedural type (it works non-stop 24 hours), an industrial giant that has an annual turnover of about 500.000 tons of various goods (raw materials, production materials, final products), that wastes around 1.750.000.000 kWh of electrical power annually (that is, the average electrical power engaged in Aluminij is around 200 MW), a company in which there are very high work temperatures (from around 950oC) and this results with large capacities of exhausted gases and dust, which overall represents a great potential bad influence on the environment. |
|
| Being assigned with the certificate is a crown to a job well done |
The representative of the independent certification firm Bureau Veritas Quality International from London Ivo Bakija awarded Mr. Mijo Brajković, the general director of Aluminij with the certificate for managing environment protection system according to ISO 14001 standards.
At this occasion it was emphasized how interesting it was that Aluminij has developed additional activities like training employees, informatics technology, internal and external communication, taking care of the work environment and preventing harmful influences on the environment that are consequences to manufacturing in the alluminium industry.

| Taking care of the water, soil, air |
|
The established system for protecting the environment and receiving the certificate is not the end but the beginning of a constant care for the environment (water, soil, air, plants and animal world, saving natural resources, human health and safety).
Therefore, Aluminij obligated itself to prevent pollution of the environment, respect strict domestic and international regulations on protecting the environment, and continuously enhancing influences on the environment. Does Aluminij pollute the environment and break the law abiding boundaries, from now and further on, Aluminij will not be the one that judges this, but independent experts and internationally renowned organizations will (like BVQI), and on the basis of results given from regular supervising (every half of a year) prolong or abolish the certificate.
