Taking care of a healthy earth

In practice, confirmed results and the level of ecological awareness of employees justify all investments in work improvements, facilities and protection equipment that are estimated to 80 million US dollars until now.
The area of bauxite usage where there aroused artificial dumps is being revitalized and brought back to its first form and usage on the basis of expert studies that are an important component of mine projects. Results of such projects can be seen in cultivated areas that are planted with parentages, orchards and trees.

For the disposal of red sludge, a water-resistant waste was created with the size 8,7 x 106 m3. Waters from the factory that flow into the river Neretva are biologically cleansed, and the oil is separated by an oil separator installation.
For the complete protection of the Neretva River a retention pool with a capacity of 5000 m3 was made which in a potential incidental situation accepts alkaline waters. The quality of water that is let out in the Neretva is always controlled.

| Taking care of the clean air |
In Aluminij a series of devices is installed which protect the employees and environment. All 256 electrolytic cells are closed tight which allows the capture of anode gases. The separation of fluorine and its return to process is conducted in particular filters with reactive alumina.
With the highly ecological effects of cleansing anode gases and recycling fluorine, we enhance an economical process. Efficiency of the devices for the protection of people and environment is followed by the regular chemical analyses of air, plant greenness, soil, open and underground water flows.

| Green surfaces with production facilities |
| With the goal of proving accomplished protection effects, improved work conditions and environment protection in Aluminij, over 400.000 m2 of surface was planted with grass, orchards, flowers, trees and other various plants. There are over 180 sorts of plants in Aluminijs garden. Employees with professional malformations and decreased working capability work in the green surfaces sector. We are talking about the so-called humanization of labor that Aluminij is conducting by the model of western European firms. |

| A special sector of staff is trained to look after the green surfaces of the Aluminij and also provide services to other people on a basis of complete engineering. The sector has its own seed plot in which over 100.000 various seedlings can be produced annually for the needs of Aluminij and the market. |
| Environment protection politics in Aluminij Mostar |
In Aluminijs manufacturing technology from the very start a program for reducing harmful influences on the environment has been present, and that with an emphasis on the protection of soil, water and air, because we are located on a water-shielded area near a village and river. Implementing the environment protection system by the standards of ISO 14001 Aluminij d.d. Mostar has obligated itself to prevent pollution, to continuous control and enhance the effecting of the environment during manufacturing, product usage and providing services.
Politics towards the environment includes:
- a regular analysis of environment aspects;
- establishing significant aspects and effects on the environment;
- undertaking necessary measures to reduce polluting of the environment within the Aluminij d.d. Mostar and surroundings where the products are used;
- continually being coherent with the laws and regulations at force and with the rest of the requirements to which the Aluminij obligated itself, that relate to its environment aspects;
In accomplishing the mentioned intentions Aluminij d.d Mostar will make an effort in:
- reducing the exhaustion of wastes at the very start of their making;
- choosing raw materials, production materials and spare parts, also developing products that are less harmful for the environment;
- implementing new technologies with the goal of reducing negative effects on the environment, also with the goal of reducing the waste of raw materials, energy-generating products and natural resources;
- an impeccable maintenance of work facilities that have an effect on the environment;
- optimizing the usage of energy, raw materials and production materials by reusing them and/or recycling technological waste or used products;
- developing awareness and training of employees in enforcing specific protection measures of environment.
The success of the quality managing system and environment protection is a vital part of the general business success of the Aluminj d.d. Mostar.
Introducing employees, subcontractors, suppliers and customers of final products to our quality policy and environment protection, we give them an opportunity, in the bounds of their activities, to contribute to the quality and protection of our environment.
All employees of Aluminij and everybody that works for and in the name of Aluminij participate in implicating the system and constantly enhancing it. |
