Administration Building
In the area of the southern Mostar valley there is the Bišće Polje (a Field), largely uncultivated, but from the end of the War in Bosnia and Herzegovina it is slowly being transformed into the city's commercial zone, and then in the midst - an oasis, a gray-green building complex, gray and white from the smelter roofs, and beautifully green from the company`s green areas, gardens, shrubs, and all kind of ornamental plants.
The Aluminij main entrance checkpoint, security guards and the sliding gate, a large, grey A letter sign, and then in the midst of the green area, surrounded by flowers, the Administration Building, made of glass and aluminum cladding. Dark blue, opaque glass and that overwhelming symbol of dignity and power that they reflect.
Double glass sliding door of the building, and then behind it - the beauty that delights even those politicians who have visited numerous places that an average person will never see. High, slender staircase, that branches off to the left and right, and above it the pyramid skylight whose edges form plus, the symbol of excellence, and underneath it, the fountain and pond with pebbles still telling their Neretva story.
The ground floor walls, with offices and diligent staff, are adorned with photos of the company destroyed by the war, taken by the great photographer Ćiril Ćiro Raič. On the floor, like the symbol of climbing the ladder of success, there are photos of the renewed giant who now walks among the greatest ones. The new Administration Building was opened in December 2008, and it was built at the location of the old Alumina Plant Administration Building.
Significantly, it is like closing a circle because - everything got started here and now it is enthroned here for the future.
The Mostar architect Davorin Smoljan has created the preliminary design. The building consists of the basement premises of 200 square meters, then the ground and first floors of the area of 900 square meters. The construction works started on October 1st 2007 with demolition of partitions and walls of the previous building. Today it is a modern building, and it seems like it has been here from time immemorial as if the old administration building was never here but it still revokes wonderful memories of the beginning and rise. The Administration Building has more than 30 offices and several meeting rooms, as well as the contemporary Great Meeting Hall, where all more important events and meetings take place.
