Two Students from the European Union at a Two-week Summer Practice in Aluminij
This year Aluminij has established a mutually satisfactory cooperation with the international student organization IAESTE (International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience) and pursuant the concluded agreement it hosted two students from the European Union for temporary work and training as part of an international student exchange program. In this way we have achieved multiple benefits because we also helped some other two students from Mostar to take summer practice abroad, which is invaluable life and professional experience.
Abigail Hallowes from the United Kingdom and Petr Koukal from the Czech Republic are staying for an interesting six-week professional practice in Aluminij, actively working in the company laboratory, using the latest technological aids, under the vigilant watch of the Aluminij engineers and other professional staff. Chief Engineer of Control and Protection Antonija Višekruna, PhD and the Head of Laboratory Snježana Marić are full of praise with adaptation and rapid gaining of new knowledge of the two young colleagues.
- It is hard to describe my excitement about Aluminij and the surroundings in general. It makes me sad that there is little information about Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Company although it is the biggest exporter in the country, it cooperates with many large companies in the world and that it cares so much about the employees and the environment. Moreover, I was startled when I found some negative articles on the Internet about Aluminij while I was getting ready to leave England. Back when I was wondering what I would encounter here and after my arrival I met a lot of friendly people, a healthy working environment and great interpersonal relations, as well as a beautiful and incredibly neat company area. It is simply the opposite to what I expected – says Abigal and the Petr`s experience is similar.
- In my country, the only information about Bosnia and Herzegovina is from the news and it only concerns the war and the current political situation. But there is so much positive about the country that the news neglects to report. Aluminij is exactly the same as any other European company and even exceeds them in some aspects like the beautiful gardens and the support of the local community and its employees. And then the city of Mostar, it has exceeded my expectations. I crossed the Old Bridge, walked along the streets of the city and the colleagues of the IAESTE organization introduced me to some of the locals, we have also met people from other countries as we have been living in the student dormitory. This is an unforgettable experience that I will of course be sharing with my friends and family once I have returned home - says Petr.
Like all our employees, Abigail and Petr work full time, they acquire new skills and apply them in practice, they are being introduced with the process of primary aluminum production, in this smelter that is certified with two ISO standards (9001 and 14001) and quite soon the third one (18001).
Aluminij of course, entirely presented its hospitality and proved why the Mostar smelter is a giant of the global scale that surpasses the local environment in many ways.
